We were supposed to spend the day working on our incredible set for this Saturday at Scala, Kings Cross (believe me, it’s awe inspiring) but then Jim got all rock n roll on us and phoned at 16:00 saying “Oh man, I’m so rock n roll, check me out and my rock n roll lifestyle, I’ve just gotten up” or something to that effect.
In the meantime, Luke and I were all like SEVENTY TIMES THE NATIONAL AVERAGE of productivity and got so much stuff done that this one guy knocked on my door and was like “I can feel the productivity seeping out from under your door, it’s incredible, like nothing I’ve ever experienced before”.
You know who that guy was? BLACK FRANCIS from the past traveled to the future. Take that M Night Shyamalan!
Anyway, so as we’d been so productive, we thought we’d make a quick video too (Luke was spending ages sorting out a vocoder part and I was bored) which can now be viewed on the Youtubes RIGHT HERE.
So other than that, remember to buy your tickets for next Saturday’s gig right here as we’ve sold through our first two allocated batches already and LOVE SELLING THINGS TO YOU PEOPLE. IT GIVES JIM THE RAGING HORN AS HE IS A SEX CRIMINAL. We hate drummers though, fascists.
Didn’t take much editing as the source material was so great in the first place thanks to all the wonderful people who came along on Saturday morning. Enjoy!
Friday night was fun. It was a shame that Fake Teak couldn’t play due to a lack of things for their drummer to hit, Peter Falconer’s impromptu set was highly entertaining, Hot Beds made us dance like we had two legs and then we played to a bear humping a speaker.
For those who didn’t make it, here’s a video to show what you missed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yf4pkRDWyUE. Thanks to all those who came along, and in answer to those who have asked, I go climbing on tables and eat some cakes before wearing one of them like a crown.
Much like the film Weird Science, this is not an excuse for anti-social behaviour. Unlike the film Weird Science, this is an update on what’s happening in the world of Neon Highwire. Roll VT.
Never Enough things which there are Never Enough of
This Friday (that’s THIS FRIDAY to those with bad eyesight), the band known as MY BAND (by me, Steve. Luke and Jim MAY refer to it as Steve’s band if they behave) will be playing at the Camden Head as part of the celebrations of one year of existence for the ace Music blog Never Enough Notes. Here is a list of the things you will need to know:
We need YOU to film a music video (avec free beer)
This is a marvelous opportunity to star in the upcoming music video for the Neon Highwire song “Bear At The Bus Stop” (http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/bear-at-the-bus-stop/id384570605?i=384570611).
We will be sorting out both the bear and the bus stop (and filming), but what we need from you is the visually weird and wonderful. Essentially, anything that doesn’t involve bears, bus stops or general bus stop attire is what we’re …looking for and we need as many people as possible to help out. Be who you want to be, do what you want to do, just do it on Saturday 25th September in London in front of a camera.
Turn up at the bus stop S on the South Bank next to Royal Festival Hall at 11am sharp for the full briefing. Here it is on the maps:

Bit vague, right? Well yes, intentionally so! To give you some ideas of the some examples that come to mind, we’re talking:
Dressing up as pirates and swordfighting.
A game of chess on a portable fold out table.
Look good in a tux? Strut!
Aerobics.
Eating a cake with your bare (not bear) hands.
Animal impressions.
Parkour.
Map reading.
As a thank you to all those who take part, there will be a thing afterwards with free beer, and everyone loves free beer, even bears.
Come along! Bring your friends! Jebus!

Have you heard of Dragonette? They are to dragons what A-Z is to Alphabs. That’s right, they’re mucho goodo, unlike Coco Jamboo.
This Saturday, the first and only Saturday of the August bank holiday weekend, they will be playing a one-off London date at 93 Feet East on Brick Lane and (not-so coincidentally) so will we. By we I mean Neon Highwire, not we as in urea. That would require two e’s and when it comes to spelling I do not bluff. Hey! It’s Sergeant BulletPoints, everyone’s favourite military entity!
By the way, you just lost the game.
If those bullet points are too intense for you, then you can learn betterer by watching this video involving talking bears.
Other than that, we’re hard at work on our next EP which may (won’t) feature songs with titles like
I’m sure there’s other stuff to mention too, but I’ve got a really sore throat, like one of those ones where every swallow hurts. I tried to get an early night last night too, but alas I kept waking up with throat pain. There’s more remixes and stuff like that at http://www.myspace.com/neonrewire. We did a revamp of the Myspace page as Myspace changed everything, though by we I mean Luke did.
Here’s the upcoming gig list and associated links.

The Playground (Dragonette, Hooligan Night, Strangefruit, Dark Like Snow, Neon Highwire, Cinnamon Antics…)

Guess the origin of the lyrics (artist and song please, bonus point if you can guess my favourite item of clothing whilst listening to each of them):
“You’ve never been to Alton Towers, Michael Caine doesn’t follow you and you’ve never been to Spain”.
“You and I have to get out of Stephan’s way”.
“My dealer drives a three wheeler, lives in a house by the side of the sea”.
“I guess I sort of lied when I said it’s not that bad. That fly, that helicopter, that red and white van”.
“I want to be colonically irrigated, so I know how it feels not to be full of sh*t”.
WHATEVER STEVE, GET ON WITH IT.
Big Chill
We’re playing at The Big Chill House on June 17th. It’s gonna be incredible, we’re on last so a longer set than usual which will be nice, though tiring. I’ve never been to the Big Chill festival, but is it just me who’s all like “Big Chill? Why the hell would I go to a festival to chill? What am I, some sort of c-?”. So yeah, we’ll be bringing our lounge-core to the Kings Cross area and hopefully I’ll have the surgery to shoot lasers out of my knuckles complete by then too. It’s got free entry, so come along you dummy! For your health.
Bear At The Bus Stop
New song from us which you can hear here. It’s short, it’s instrumental and it embraces triplets much like this sentence. Feedback so far has ranged from “I like that it’s instrumental” to “Is it finished or ongoing?”. With feedback like that, how can you resist?
Video
We made a video to educate you again. No need to thank us, we’re martyrs and will just moan about you not thanking us behind your backs. TYPICAL. Watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5tJi0XGOdY
Twitterview
Never Enough Notes asked us questions, we gave them answers. That’s how interviews work yeah? Difference here is that it was through Twitter. It’s like the future today. 386 baby, 386. Here it is.
Remixes
As part of the upcoming Neon Blink release on Blue Dove Records, there’ve been a load of Neon Blink remixes and there are more to come. Take a listen to some because they’re great. Don’t take a listen to them if you eat your own farts. You don’t eat your own farts, do you? Oh man, if people knew you ate your own farts, you wouldn’t get invited to that thing you’re really excited about going to. Think about it. Just listen.
Others
Greggs. I mean gigs:
Thursday 17th June 2010
THE PLAYGROUND (Neon Highwire, The Goos, The Gavels, The Black Sands, Mercers)
The Big Chill House, 257-259 Pentonville Road, London, N1 9NL
Saturday 7th August 2010
Here Comes The Sun (Neon Highwire & tbc)
It’s been way too long, this needs to be rectified!
Steve.
The Neon Goblins have been beavering away to create this cinematic masterpiece for your audiovisual delectation. Ever wanted to record vocals to a professional quality* in your own home? Then look no further than this informative videos from the people that brought you “Sustain This” and “Votergeddon”.
*professional butcher/milliner.
What are your plans for this Thursday? If they’re not dancing like a shitlollipop at Vibe Bar, Brick Lane then I feel sorry for you son, I’ve got 99 synthlines and Funky Town ain’t won.
If you need any more incentive, check out this video ++ on the Youtubes. It’s all about the straw polls, and mine does look like a straw poll, unfortunately.
With the general erection looming over us like Burt Reynolds in a cock-shaped bi-plane, we realised that it was time to get political. FEAR NOT: we have not turned into soul destroying, hypocritical fuckwarts like U2 or that hairy one off live aid, but hopefully you may just learn something about the world we live in.
The first video “sustain this” is jam-packed with juicy shizzle to lather you up into a political and panda-shaped frenzy. Why not see for yourself, here:
