This months edition of Rock Sound magazine has a review of Luminescence, which as it’s in a physical magazine, I’ll type out for you like your own personal secretary. I won’t do that though, put it away.
7/10
“Two years on the scene, London gents Neon Highwire have been cutting their angular-chops in all the right places, and it shows. The startling ‘Isometric View’ harkens to Hadouken!, all shrieking outrage and dirty basslines, while ‘Under Moonlight’ has a touch of Ian Curtis’ clench-toothed vocals over skittering synths. Already playlisted by the BBC and with plans for a UK tour this year, it looks like the future’s not only bright for this trio, it’s neon.”
Some nice words from RebelRiffs in their review of Luminscence which you can read here. As Steve (Gilmore, not me) says “With a great cross between electronica and chippy rock, Neon Highwire are a fine example of the health of English music. The problem lies in the health of the English music business whose blindness to the potential of bands like this will be remembered and noted, come the f****** revolution.“
Kickass music blog Subba Cultcha (yes, a Pixies reference) said some nice things about our Luminescence EP which you can read here.
“Sounding at various times like Hot Chip and Hadouken! In equal measure, this is certainly one of the more accomplished efforts of the month – bouncy, engaging and interesting. Yummers” to be precise.
Many people have emailed me lately and said
“Steve, I really want to own a horse, but don’t have the space for it in my London based tower block flat. Can horses fly?”
The answer is no, horses cannot fly.
THIS FRIDAY!
Moving on, we’ve got a STONKER (meow) of a gig coming up Friday at the triple A battery Powers bar in Kilburn run by the super fantastic lake of ice cream No Fiction. It’s free entry, has AWESOME DJs, two incredible bands known for great music and live shows (HEY, ONE OF THOSE IS US! WODYAKNOW!), and loads of drink offers a n d t h e l i k e c==3
Luminescence
Buy it from Amazon, iTunes, Indiestore, Amie Street and a bunch of others like Napster and Myspace Music and Rhapsody too. Buy multiple copies then come see us live and buy some more. I’ll sign anything that moves. Make new friends, buy them the CDs. Things you can use the CD for:
Playing music.
Yeah, you thought that was gonna be one of my awesome lists, but it wasn’t. Deal.
Video
I bought a video camera, yeah, big deal. We’re gonna start filming stuff. Music videos are lame, we have much better ideas than that, what we need now are crowns. Anyway, we’ve got a Youtube channel at this place which also has a link to us playing our extended edit of Akira! at 93 Feet East.
Other Stuff
There’s a load of other new stuff in the pipeline, but figure rather than just blabbering on about it, we’ll get it all confirmed and fit for consumption first. So be patient and keep checking www.neonhighwire.com.
Few gigs coming up, but can’t reveal details on all yet till they’re confirmed. Probably playing in Brighton on March 19th though, which will be nice.

Leigh from Easy Music For Difficult Ears has given a review of our Luminescence EP which you can read in full here.
“Without wishing to be crass, retro geared electro is the popular mass-music theme at the moment and as such any band with an extra few quid seem to feel the need to get buzz-shit together. Unfortunately most of these band’s are shite – Neon Highwire… are not.”
“Overall, it is not bad effort by Neon Highwire and while it is hardly revolutionary stuff by any stretch of the imagine, it’s definitely worth a listen. Good stuff.”
In the words of Kathie Smart from Sherwood Radio (as found online here)…
“For any of you that may have missed last weeks show and for those of you who tuned in BIG THANKS! I played my top 40 Unsigned tracks of 2009 at the bottom of the email is the Top 40 tracklisting for you

Daily Dischord have given Luminescence a 4/5 review, check it out by clicking here. Here’s what they say:
“It’s really easy to make a dance/rock hybrid sound shit. You just need to listen to Enter Shikari’s latest effort. It seems a lot of bands trying to plug that trade has run out of ideas, and like a lot of genres that hit a successful streak, it all gets a bit clichéd.
The same cannot be said for Neon Highwire. Yes, their EP ‘Luminescence’ isn’t massively new, but it does more than enough to make it interesting amongst the rest of the crop. The opening track ‘Neon Blink’ may leave you a tad underwhelmed, but the second track ‘Don’t: Wait’ does more than enough to make up for it’s predecessors short comings, with some crazy electro beats been thrown in to keep you on your toes while the indie rock elements of the bands sound seem to take the back seat, almost like a more calculated HORSE The Band song. It’s beyond this point you hear the best Neon Highwire have to offer. ‘Creation #4.00’ builds up into a complete shit storm of electronic beats and nice guitar riffs, opening up into a nice track, before ‘Under Moonlight’ entertains. The main event arrives in the form of ‘Isometric View’, a haphazard track that kicks and screams with frantic vocals and a catchy guitar line over some nice beats.
‘Akira!’ ends things fantastically with an enormous climax, and with that, ‘Luminescence’ proves to be an EP well worth your attention. Yes, it could be better, but the EP is highly ambitious and for that it deserves respect. Neon Highwire are a band worthy of your attention, so make sure you check this infectious EP out as soon as possible.”
