STILL no fucking Oscar nomination

Posted on 10:02, January 26th, 2012 by Steven Morgan

What the hell is up with that?  What, just because we haven’t made a film? Jesus effing christ, do I look like a bag of twats?  Because they’re talking to me like I’m a bag of twats.

Anyway, in order to cleanse ourselves of the shun of the ILUMINAZIs which control the internets (thanks David Micke), we are instead playing a show with so much awesome piled with so much awesome that there is no room left for ham.  In fact, if the awesome were stacked up like in a game of Tetris, then it would all disappear as the row would be full.  Full of awesome.

You may still be wondering if this is something you want to become part of your life (like a pint of idiot), so to give you a balanced view on whether or not you should do this, here are a list of pros and cons.

Pros:

Friday night baby!

Neon Highwire baby!

Is Tropical & Black Daniel baby!

Close to the tube baby!

They have a bar baby!

Special guests baby!

Cons:

Justin Bieber could technically attend in theory.

Anyway, here are the cold hard facts:

Date: Friday 27th January 2012.

Location: Purple Turtle, 65 Crowndale Road, London, NW1 1TN.

Nearest Tube: Mornington Crescent (Northern Line).

Opening Hours: 20:00 – 04:00.

Price: £4 advance, £5 on the door with a flyer.

Lineup: Is Tropical (DJ), Fugue B2b Bogart, Black Daniel, A Fat White Family, Neon Highwire, Bow Mods, Ozonna, The Mannakings, You Me And The Moon

Some lovely words about our last show from Never Enough Notes online HERE.

Moustache Flash was a smash, our thanks to everyone who came down, some photos will be making their way onlines soon thanks to some snapperoo work by the frankly awesome Katharine Collins who is better at arm wrestling than both Jim Dippie & Steven Morgan (scientific proof available), though at time of writing, I’m not sure if a Lukebattle has occurred.

WO IST DIE BAHNHOF!?

The Day My Computer Said (hello)

Posted on 12:28, August 24th, 2011 by Steven Morgan

Some said it couldn’t be done.

Some said I was crazy to even consider it a possibility.

To those people I said no.

I will ride a Segway.

In other “news”, due to a chance alignment of “The Moon” and “Uranus”, I somehow managed to convince the incredible Darren Keen to pop by London as part of his 10 month tour as The Show Is The Rainbow on Wednesday September 14th.

Here’s some liquid* (*not actually liquid) excitement for you:

Video for Don’t Vote filmed in one take for Love Drunk.

Introductory Spotify playlist

Also on the bill are us (natch), the intense live show of Elephant 12 (tipped for big things) and the sassy Hot Beds.

Not just that, also during the night:

TEST YOUR STRENGTH at the El Tablo Arm Wrestlo!

RISK YOUR LIFE at the Top Trump Deathmatch!

CURE INCURABLE DISEASES with finely groomed moustaches!

MUSCLE beach!

Some other stuff’s happened since the last mail too, like an interview video with us going online, a stream of a disasterous live show of ours going on line (not our fault, I promise!), Skope magazine featuring our BATBS video and Steve dancing, but this is far too exciting for any of that to get any more than a paragraph in this mail.

STOP READING AND BUY TICKETS NOW USING THIS INTERNET LINK ON THE INTERNET!  JUST CLICK ON THESE GIANT WORDS TO GO TO THERE! THAT’S HOW THE INTERNET WORKS!

Here it is again, in case you are scan reading this email and there’s a chance you miss it.  “I will not let that happen or my name isn’t Ian Beale.” – Ian Beale.

Don’t know Darren Keen?  Read on

“Hi! My name is DARREN KEEN. I have spent the past 8, almost 9 years touring full time with my band THE SHOW IS THE RAINBOW.

The Show is the Rainbow is a bizzare mix of FUNK / HIP HOP / DANCE / and EXPERIMENTAL ELECTRONIC music, with a MULTIMEDIA presentation and lots of quick witted banter. I have played literally just under 1,000 shows, including 30+ tours of the United States, 9 European tours, and 2 tours of New Zealand.

Pulling influences from Frank Zappa, Beck, Squarepusher, and Captain Beefheart, I have built up a following, and turned what was once sort of a “novelty” act, into a full fledged, DIY, underground movement. People have compared me to a midwestern, musical Andy Kaufman, with the ability to light up any room with my hilarious, original, and confusing behavior.

I have released 4 full length albums, and plenty of ep’s and singles, on a variety of record labels from all over the world, including TSK!TSK! (London, UK), RETARD DISCO (Los Angeles, CA), YOSADA (Boise, ID), and I have future releases planned for both the FLYING NUN (NZ) and DUAL PLOVER (OZ). My most recent full length “Tickled Pink”, was released on 12″ vinyl on my own label, IT ARE GOOD RECORDS, which has luckily found distribution through the forward thinking electronic label ILLEGAL ART (home of Girl Talk, Steinski, and Junk Culture).

Right now I am in the middle of a YEAR LONG HONEYMOON TOUR, which will take me and my wife all around the world 3 times! It has been amazing so far, and we look forward to our upcoming dates in Europe, New Zealand, and Australia.

Through my 9 years of touring, I have played a variety of shows and venues, and I love it all, from the dingiest basement to the largest
outdoor camping festivals. I have been lucky enough to tour with acts like Man Man, Neil Hamburger, Deerhoof, The Faint, Girl Talk, Dan Deacon, Mae Shi, Cursive, and F in Math. I have been invited to play so many great shows, including Bergenfest in Bergen, Norway (twice!), Camp A Low Hum in New Zealand (twice), and countless appearances at CMJ and SXSW in the USA.

Fan of car crash TV? Read on!

Posted on 10:19, June 26th, 2011 by Steven Morgan

Thanks to everyone who came to Cafe 1001 last night to watch us being filmed eating apples, drinking port, dancing suggestively with a balloon sword and attempting to play the new material we’ve written.  Unfortunately a series of unfortunate events made it an… Interesting show!  With a two hour delay to the start due to problems with the venue’s equipment, it didn’t bode well, but add to that Jim’s effects board ceasing to work mere hours after it was behaving perfectly, problems with Luke’s amp and no monitor sounds meaning we could barely work out which song we were supposed to be playing, and once again the world of live instrumentation has one up on us!

Alas, these things happen, and we’d just like to say sorry to all those in attendance, we always want to give everything to our live shows, so we’re as disappointed as yourselves when we’re not able to, but to add to the facepalm… It was all recorded!  Who knows if it’ll even make it to air, but if you fancy yourself a bit of car crash TV, then turn off your Jeremy Kyle and click on this link!

Rappin’ Is My Bread And Butter

Posted on 23:25, May 25th, 2011 by Steven Morgan

The battery has almost run out on my laptop.  I cannot be bothered to get the power cable.  I MUST WRITE THIS EMAIL BEFORE THE POWER RUNS OUT.  It’s the plot to series forty six of 24, budgets vastly cut.

Last email I sent was February 18th, here’s what’s happened since then, in order of magnitude:

I’ve barely got any minutes left, what a dilemma (bed time boys)!

You may have noticed we’re playing a lot less shows recently, this is because we’re finishing our second EP.  Spin Off and a soon to be announced follow up single are there to whet your appetite in the meantime, but the new tracks are almost complete and those who have heard them were so blown away, they forgot to comment positively on their content.  ONLY JOKING, THEY FORMED A DAISY CHAIN!

As we’re holding a lot back for that, contrary to my usual shoot-my-mouth-off methodology, there’s not much more to say right now.  The new single (wonderfully remixed by Fresh:Mesh) and the upcoming show should keep you relatively sated for now at least.

…on the cover of the compliation Electro House Essentials Volume 7 which opens with the Novelty Music Scene remix of Neon Blink!  It’s out tomorrow for e’rybody to embrace like a crying orphan.  If that’s not enough, then on the 29th March, Sunset 2 Sunrise Volume 09 sees the Hail! Perestroika rewire of Neon Blink on track 6.  It’s like summer but with more shoes.  In other news, I had an awesome salad for lunch (made by me, naturally), however now it is almost six o’clock and my stomach is all like “I KILL YOU! I KILL YOU IN THE FACE!“.  I was listening to some Das Racist and had to turn it off because it was exacerbating my hunger.  Tragedy.

Rollover Rover iPhone game music

Posted on 14:47, March 11th, 2011 by Steven Morgan

Eightyeight games have released the iPad / iPhone game Rollover Rover which features our song Bear At The Bus Stop on the soundtrack.  Buy it here through the Apple store.  It’s EXACTLY like a hybrid between R-Type, Brian Bloodaxe and Everyone’s A Wally but simultaneously nothing like that whatsoever.  “IT’S SO GOOD I PUT MY NAME ON IT” as George Foreman would say.
