Fan of car crash TV? Read on!

Posted on 10:19, June 26th, 2011 by Steven Morgan

Thanks to everyone who came to Cafe 1001 last night to watch us being filmed eating apples, drinking port, dancing suggestively with a balloon sword and attempting to play the new material we’ve written.  Unfortunately a series of unfortunate events made it an… Interesting show!  With a two hour delay to the start due to problems with the venue’s equipment, it didn’t bode well, but add to that Jim’s effects board ceasing to work mere hours after it was behaving perfectly, problems with Luke’s amp and no monitor sounds meaning we could barely work out which song we were supposed to be playing, and once again the world of live instrumentation has one up on us!

Alas, these things happen, and we’d just like to say sorry to all those in attendance, we always want to give everything to our live shows, so we’re as disappointed as yourselves when we’re not able to, but to add to the facepalm… It was all recorded!  Who knows if it’ll even make it to air, but if you fancy yourself a bit of car crash TV, then turn off your Jeremy Kyle and click on this link!

Rappin’ Is My Bread And Butter

Posted on 23:25, May 25th, 2011 by Steven Morgan

The battery has almost run out on my laptop.  I cannot be bothered to get the power cable.  I MUST WRITE THIS EMAIL BEFORE THE POWER RUNS OUT.  It’s the plot to series forty six of 24, budgets vastly cut.

Last email I sent was February 18th, here’s what’s happened since then, in order of magnitude:

I’ve barely got any minutes left, what a dilemma (bed time boys)!

You may have noticed we’re playing a lot less shows recently, this is because we’re finishing our second EP.  Spin Off and a soon to be announced follow up single are there to whet your appetite in the meantime, but the new tracks are almost complete and those who have heard them were so blown away, they forgot to comment positively on their content.  ONLY JOKING, THEY FORMED A DAISY CHAIN!

As we’re holding a lot back for that, contrary to my usual shoot-my-mouth-off methodology, there’s not much more to say right now.  The new single (wonderfully remixed by Fresh:Mesh) and the upcoming show should keep you relatively sated for now at least.

Well, it’s the 25th April and Spin Off is yet to hit the streets. I hadn’t factored being in a yurt in Cornwall into the release schedule it would seem – I can only apologise.

The Rt Hon DJ Fresh:Mesh assures me his super ultra mega remix will be with me very soon and once I return to civilisation (aka smog/noise) I shall get busy with the iTunes, I CHUFFING PROMISE.

In short: Spin Off out next week!

Right, I’m going before my phone reception disappears…

Big love eggs to you all!

Kim Jong Il Looking At Things

We made a new song dedicated to the website Kim Jong Il Looking At Things with the same name.  It was adopted by the site as their “national anthem” and featured in the B3ta newsletter which was nice of everyone.  Nice like.  Listen here: http://soundcloud.com/neonhighwire/kim-jong-il-looking-at-things.

Band of the month on Little House TV

If you’re on a student network (recent change, most annoying) you can see us on Little House here: http://littlehousetv.com/.  Last I saw it had us playing Under Moonlight at the end of the show, but as I’m not a student I don’t know what’s there anymore.  Let me know if it’s changed students.  You now have a purpose.

TwoGroove wrote some nice things about us in addition to the interview we did with them.  Don’t take my word for it though, click here: http://bit.ly/ex0qiq

Kim Jong Il Looking At Things: The Theme Song

Posted on 22:15, January 26th, 2011 by Steven Morgan

Some people say that writing, recording and mastering a song in three hours is an unwise idea.  To those fucking people I say “YOU’RE PROBABLY RIGHT!”.  Regardless of this, I did that exact thing.  At lunchtime today I suddenly wanted to write a tribute song to the website Kim Jong Il Looking At Things.  So that’s what I did this evening.  It’s basically a fucking masterpiece, and anyone who says otherwise kills baby seals with the corpses of baby humans then blends the result to make a smoothie they have sex with, i.e. Mel Gibson.  Here’s the proof:

If Mogwai Did Vocals

Posted on 09:10, October 27th, 2010 by Steven Morgan

I joked that I was going to start a side-project putting cheesy vocal lines over Mogwai songs.  Then I ONLY GAWN AND BLAADY DID IT, DINT I!?  Two hours writing, recording and mastering so you know it’s monumental.

Much like the film Weird Science, this is not an excuse for anti-social behaviour.  Unlike the film Weird Science, this is an update on what’s happening in the world of Neon Highwire.  Roll VT.

Never Enough things which there are Never Enough of

This Friday (that’s THIS FRIDAY to those with bad eyesight), the band known as MY BAND (by me, Steve. Luke and Jim MAY refer to it as Steve’s band if they behave) will be playing at the Camden Head as part of the celebrations of one year of existence for the ace Music blog Never Enough Notes.  Here is a list of the things you will need to know:

  1. The show is with two other ace bands who will FORCE YOU TO DANCE WITH KNIVES (in a good way) known as Fake Teak and Hot Beds.
  2. There will be cake.
  3. Doors open at 19:30.
  4. This is it on Facesbook
  5. This is happening afterwards at the same venue.

We need YOU to film a music video (avec free beer)

This is a marvelous opportunity to star in the upcoming music video for the Neon Highwire song “Bear At The Bus Stop” (http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/bear-at-the-bus-stop/id384570605?i=384570611).

We will be sorting out both the bear and the bus stop (and filming), but what we need from you is the visually weird and wonderful. Essentially, anything that doesn’t involve bears, bus stops or general bus stop attire is what we’re …looking for and we need as many people as possible to help out. Be who you want to be, do what you want to do, just do it on Saturday 25th September in London in front of a camera.

Turn up at the bus stop S on the South Bank next to Royal Festival Hall at 11am sharp for the full briefing. Here it is on the maps:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode&q=Waterloo+Station%2C+Lambeth%2C+London&sll=43.480926%2C-80.537664&sspn=0.091799%2C0.222988&g=Waterloo&ie=UTF8&hq&hnear=Waterloo+Station%2C+London+SE1%2C+United+Kingdom&ll=51.505742%2C-0.115429&spn=0.00123%2C0.003484&z=19&layer=c&cbll=51.505684%2C-0.115522&panoid=tYUY6CjAOTj0owkqRFrzcw&cbp=12%2C137.82%2C%2C0%2C10.42

Bit vague, right? Well yes, intentionally so! To give you some ideas of the some examples that come to mind, we’re talking:

Dressing up as pirates and swordfighting.
A game of chess on a portable fold out table.
Look good in a tux? Strut!
Aerobics.
Eating a cake with your bare (not bear) hands.
Animal impressions.
Parkour.
Map reading.

As a thank you to all those who take part, there will be a thing afterwards with free beer, and everyone loves free beer, even bears.

Come along! Bring your friends! Jebus!

Bear At The Bus Stop now on Spotify

Posted on 13:05, September 13th, 2010 by Steven Morgan

For those who like their music streamy, free and interlaced with Canadian voiceovers talking about summer houses, you can listen to Bear At The Bus Stop on Spotify right now!

Also, I’m totally addicted to other people’s playlists on Spotify at the moment, so bring it on.

New tune now on myspace!

Posted on 21:14, May 18th, 2010 by Luke Fussell

You!  Stop touching yourself, there are better things to do now!

That’s right, it’s a brand spanky-phresch new tune for your oh-so-lucky ears and it’s right…

HERE

It’s called ‘Bear at the Bus Stop’ and it’s putting the mental back into instrumental, so go and listen to it before it eats all the salmon fishcakes.

If you despise Myspace like Steve does, then you can listen to it below also.
Bear At The Bus Stop by NeonHighwire

Last year, I was asked by (some) of Skyline Dossier to have a go at recording a vocal track for one of their songs (7″ Swing). It was a bit ambiguous as to whether this was for ideas for their regular vocalist Dan, or whether it was some potential for a guest spot, but as I’d just finished recording the backing to Don’t: Wait, I thought I’d give it a go. The result is an ideas track of sorts which I sent over to them to see if they liked it or wanted to do anything with it. Months later and I still haven’t heard anything definitive from them, so I figured I’d just chuck it online for other people to have a listen to, at least until they complain and ask me to take it down. The quality is a bit sketchy as I’d assumed there’d be more of a collaboration from this point, making this a first draft but as that never worked out, I might as well chuck it out there.
